I gots nots too much interesting things to share this week for the One Room Challenge… just a simple semi-styled bookshelf! We’ve had a hard time finding an office chair which is one of the last things on our list so hopefully we can find something before next week!
We got the IKEA Vittsjo bookshelf ($79) which I love. I’ve seen it spray painted gold before and I love that too, but there’s already a lot of gold going on in here and we need this room to be manly(ish). To me the bookshelf doesn’t scream “IKEA” and I highly appreciate the affordable and convenient factor.
We are using one shelf to house Jesse’s camera equipment. He was on a shoot when these photos were taken so the only lenses out are his two least favorite (he’ll cringe when he sees this). Typically though, they will all be lined up ready for him to pick and pack for whatever he is shooting that day. We wanted it to be on display so it would be like a store when he’s getting his equipment together.
The coconut palm leaf baskets are also from IKEA and are the Kottebo ($16.99). I loved the rustic feel these gave the bookshelf and I also love how pretty they are agains the blue-green walls (the wall color is soooo hard to capture correctly in photos but just trust me when I say it’s beautiful!)
Now I just need to get everything styled on the bookshelf. I feel like styling is my weak spot when it comes to decorating. I just don’t have the eye for the levels, what looks good where, what looks cluttered and what doesn’t. Needless to say I’ll be spending a lot of time on Pinterest next week.
Now I still need to figure out the art above the bed situation… (I am really thankful for your opinions on that last week!) I know a lot of you guys think the art is too small (and I agree) but I also think the camera makes it look a little smaller than it actually is. We also feel like the other side of the room has a lot going on (the bookshelf and desk) so I need to do some more thinking about this.
Right now the first chair in the running is this one from West Elm:
It’s the for $349 – which is pretty cheap for an office chair. I really love the grey stripes and think they will complement the daybed nicely. We also didn’t want anything with wheels but needed something that swiveled, so it’s been tough finding both of those in one chair.
Now I just gotta hope I can find one before next week!

The book shelf looks great. I see the room is slowly coming together.
Love the shelf and how you are displaying items that represent your character rather then things that just look pretty.
