20 Non-Wool Sweaters I’m Obsessed With

As a vegan, I don’t wear wool for ethical reasons. I used to think that sheep were very well taken care of and that they didn’t need their coats, but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Just look up videos of wool factories and you’ll be horrified. That said, it didn’t take much convincing for me to eliminate wool from my wardrobe for good.

Even if the ethical side of things doesn’t appeal to you, wool is a very finicky fabric that can start to smell if left wet, shrinks easily, and is sometimes very itchy. I’ve rounded up 20 of my favorite non-wool sweaters from around the web, so I hope you’ll enjoy!

The above sweater is one of my favorite purchases this season. I’m in love with the vibrant fall colors, the material is super cozy and the oversized fit is perfect for holiday family gatherings.

There are a few factors I look for when choosing a sweater…

First thing is the neckline.

(I don’t like anything with too prominent of a turtleneck as I have a really round face and it’s not the most flattering). I love a mock-neck style or simple crew.

Next I look at the cuffs of the sleeves.

I either prefer it to be fitted around the wrist so I can push the sleeves up, or I want it to be completely bell sleeved, but nothing in between.

Finally I look at the hem.

I love the oversized look above, but am also partial to a cropped fit as it looks the best with high-waisted jeans. Anything in the middle starts to get a little unflattering as it will likely end up hitting you in your widest area.

Wool is not the only non-vegan fabric in sweaters, although it is the most common. Other materials to avoid are angora, alpaca, cashmere, silk, felt, and more.
