Royal Design Studio Review: A TV Tray Makeover

I am so excited to share with you guys my latest project, all thanks to Royal Design Studio. They were kind enough to have me review one of their stencils!
I fell in love with the Hollywood Squares stencil, and I knew it would be something I could use on many future projects to come:
I ordered the large size because you can bet I’ll be doing this on a wall in a future house.
The victim:

Two TV trays from Target that were only $8.99 and have clearly seen their days.
Because they were so damaged, I sanded, primed and spraypainted the tops with a Krylon Black Lacquer.
Next, I taped the stencils on with double sided tape.

Rather than use a typical paint and brush, I used my Krylon Gold Leaf Pen which prevented a LOT of potential mess.

I started with an outline to ensure clean lines and then filled it in with the gold leaf.
I topped it all off with a Modge Podge Acrylic Sealer to protect the paint and design.

I am tickled with the results. Who says TV trays can’t be pretty?!
The stencil was SO easy to use and the quality is so good that I can use it for multiple projects and it will easily hold up.
The stencils run in the $20-$40 range which is completely reasonable, and they are a much cheaper and less permanent alternative to wallpaper.
If you’re not convinced yet, they have literally every design you could possibly dream of. Also, if you’re a stencil newbie, they have a ton of how-to’s on their website that are a great reference.
Do you guys love it as much as I do? The stencil bug has officially bit me and I’m searching high and low for my next victim.
Stay tuned next week because one of YOU might have a chance to get a stencil of your own! ๐Ÿ˜‰
xoxo,
H

I never new TV trays could look so good. In fact I never thought of TV trays being something that could be a design enhancement. It's always great to be able to take a n everyday item and turn it into something beautiful. Great job.
