I don’t know about y’all…but I am no artist. And yes, I mean to say that in the fancy way, you know with the emphasis on the I. However, I do love art and I think it brings SO much oomph to a space.
I enjoy a good print, but there is something about seeing the brush strokes on a painting that make it seem so much more lively and personal.
I expressed my longing to do a DIY piece of art here and I finally decided to go for it!
You will need:
Acrylic Paint ( I chose the cheapest, Hi…are you surprised? )
Paintbrushes
Canvas ( Scored mine at Ross.. 2 for $6.99 )
Painter’s tape that is the width of your choice ( I failed to do this… )
First, start in a corner and tape off shapes until you get the look you want. Like I said, I failed to buy the right kind of tape and it wasn’t going to stick. You NEED painter’s tape. I ended up ripping a thick roll of painter’s tape I already have and ended up kind of loving the non-restrictive look it gave the painting.
Begin painting the shapes. TIP: I got a whitish-grey color that I was able to mix with each of the colors to create a new complementary color. This is a good idea if you only want a few shades, and an easy way to save some $$!
Let dry.
Peel off the tape.
I liked it, but it was still a little clean for my tastes. I wanted some more chaos, so I basically splatter-painted the bejeebus out of it.
And here it resides, on the office/loft future gallery wall ;).
Have any of you attempted your own artwork before? Think you’re up for the challenge?

Hannah
