Guest Post: The Urban Slant – Realistic New Years Resolutions

Hi! Julia from the Urban Slant here! Hannah, my fellow DG sister, and I decided to do a little blogswap about Realistic New Year’s Resolutions! She is the sweetest girl, and I’m so honored she’s having me here today.

Okay, so it’s that time of year when you’ve eaten too many carbs, and drank one too many glasses of wine, and you’re just waiting to make those resolutions? Right? Well, if you’re anything like me, you follow through with them for about week, and then you fall off the wagon.

However, this year, I’m feeling extra motivated to actually follow through on a few of my resolutions because they are easy enough for anyone to do. I think that we put too much pressure on ourselves and make unattainable resolutions — like work out everyday, never shop, never drink etc. I mean, we’re human, we have to make sure we’re still happy, right?!

So here I have a few ideas that I think anyone can do. You might even be able to promise yourself a few of these.

1. Read one book a month

2. Get at least 1 hour of physical activity a day

3. Take the stairs when you can — easy exercise!

4. Make your lunch for work every day

5. Wake up 30 minutes earlier and cross something off your to-do list

6. Every time you buy something new — donate something old to your local Salvation Army

7. Be a tourist in your own city

Thanks for having me today Hannah! Be sure to check out the Urban Slant for daily reads on urban life, food, design, travel and fashion! xoxo

Thanks Julia!! Great resolutions, I am definitely taking these on! Especially making making my lunch for work…talk about money $aver! I’ll be over at her blog today, so be sure to check it out!

xoxo,

Hannah

Both of you have such great resolutions! I added read more often to my resolutions, but I like getting specific with one book a month. And could not agree more about being a tourist in your own city or even state. I always feel like I need to go somewhere far, far away to be a tourist, which is so not true. Happy 2012!

I DEFINITELY need to start packing my lunch again and wake up earlier. I've been such a lazy slacker monkey lately.

I'm definitely going to have to work on all of those! I usually don't have any problem reading one book a month, but the rest are fabulous ideas to work on!

I really loved both of your resolutions and will be adding some from both of your lists to my own! I definitely need to start packing a lunch at work too ($6 a day could be spent in much better ways than lunch!). I even found a similar lunch container at the Container Store to make packing lunch easier.

    Thanks for sharing!

Those are great tips – very doable and I like make your own lunch and bring it to work. Even though I work out of my own home I need to make my lunch more often instead of going out!

I'm also trying to work out for an hour each day. It's keeps your heart healthy and strong!

Great tips! I especially love the idea of being a tourist in your own city. I haven't done that yet and really need to!

Hannah, I have to laugh at your blog title that is totally my tagline. I say that I have champagne taste on a beer budget constantly – such a cute idea for a blog 🙂
