Business Attire With a Flare

Blouse: River Island (old – similar here & here)  |  Skirt: H&M (love this similar cobalt flared pencil skirt)  |  Shoes: TopShop  |  Bag: Kate Spade (on sale!)  |  Earrings: Tory Burch  |  Ring: Trina Turk
I don’t normally feel comfortable in pencil skirts because I feel like they accentuate my lack of shape.  Even though I don’t feel comfortable in them, I like the way they look because I think they make any business outfit look instantly more polished.  There’s something fierce about a woman in the workforce wearing a good pencil skirt and a killer pair of heels.
When I stumbled on this flared hem pencil skirt in H&M, I knew it was going to be just what I needed.  The flared hem balances out my straight figure and gives me that girly shape I love.  I will give one piece of advice when it comes to buying pencil skirts – SIZE UP.  Pencil skirts fit completely different when you’re sitting at a desk than when you’re standing up and they also fit completely different after lunchtime – I know you know what I’m talking about.  Believe me, it’s better to have a skirt be a little loose in the waist and be comfortable through out the day.  (Plus, too tight skirts can be bad on your organs.  TMI maybe?  Just looking out!)
You might have noticed my skirt is navy and the rest of my outfit is black.  That’s because I don’t believe black & navy can’t mix.  I’ve never followed the no black & brown and no black & navy together rule, and I don’t think you should either!
Are you against black & navy or do you love the color combo as much as I do?

Navy and black go good together. My husband say to all eat a huge meal and then go clothes shopping.
