Dress: Sugar Love Boutique c/o  |  Bag: Kate Spade  |  Shoes: Zara (old – love these black pointed toe pumps)   |  Watch: Michael Kors

My favorite work outfit in the summer months is a crisp, professional dress made from an airy fabric. The last thing I want to do is put on a thick pair of slacks and a stiff button-up shirt when it’s 85 degrees outside.

Dresses can be tricky in a professional environment, but I find that if the dress is just a couple inches above the knee (no more) and doesn’t show much skin on top, you are usually pretty safe.  In choosing a printed dress, like the one I’m wearing, I’ll steer clear from bright colors.  Bright colors and bright patterns can be a bit much in an office setting.  I find that solid brights are more palatable and neutral prints don’t command as much attention.

I love that this dress gives the illusion of a wrap dress but isn’t one, and that it is pencil shaped but not so form-fitting that it’s uncomfortable.

What do you look for in a dress worn in a professional setting?

Love how you were afraid to put these shoes w/the dress. The heel bring such interest to the ensemble. Great job styling. http://stylegonerogue.com
