Here’s yet another brilliant DIY that I can’t take credit for thinking of, but had to try my hand at.
Big thanks to Jessica from The Aestate who originally did these faux malachite boxes. See her full DIY here.
You can find the wood box at your local craft store; mine was $3. The paint is Liquitex Basics in Deep Green and can be found here for $3.43. I used some white acrylic paint I had on hand but that can also be found at your craft store.
You want to start by painting the entire box white (this can be super sloppy since you are painting over the white anyways).
Then paint the green over the white. While it is still wet, use a ripped piece of cardboard to add swirled designs. (It is helpful to look at a picture of malachite to use as a guide).
Once it is dry, go over the gold hardware with a gold leaf pen. (You could always remove this before like Jessica did and fill the holes with wood filler).
Finally spray with a clear sealer for a shiny effect.
I was pleasantly surprised with the results of this DIY, and now I have a bit of the color of the year in my house for less than $10 total!
