I dub this dress the honorary “hidden gem” of my closet. I bought it from a vintage store a few years ago from a $2 bin. It was originally a maxi length but I was swimming in it. To solve that, I cut off the bottom half of the dress. Since it’s a polyester type material, it didn’t fray. At the time I bought it I was in college, and the occasions where I might wear this dress were few and far between. Thus, it got shoved to the back of the closet and amongst many moves, it was quickly forgotten about.
I make it my goal to clean out my closet once a month, in order to get rid of things I’m not wearing that are taking up space. In the process I found my little $2 dress and fell more in love with it than when I first bought it. I’ve worn it to work a couple of times now and I swear to you, I’ve gotten more compliments on it than anything else I own. Everyone assumes it’s a really expensive dress and I have to refrain myself from telling them it’s from the $2 bin! When I do mention it, I get a bit of a side eye. Sometimes it’s better to let things be your little secret.

Yes, hidden gems are the best! I bought a pair of boots years ago that I kept in a box and never seemed to open. One day I opened it up and there they were. I wore them almost every day for the whole of winter! It's like finding $50 when you least expected it.
