Holiday Make-up // Play by the Rules and Breaking the Rules

Consideration was provided by Target

I don’t know about you guys, but I can’t get enough of holiday makeup.  In the summer I tend to wear much less makeup and don’t experiment with colors as much, so this holiday season has been filled with bold makeup looks for me.  I guess you could say I’ve been “breaking the rules” from your standard holiday makeup.  Speaking of – I’ve teamed up with Target again to bring you two festive looks: your classic holiday hair & makeup and your not-so-typical holiday hair & makeup.

I approached the beauty concierge at my local Target (hi Eva!) and she helped me find some awesome products to create my two looks.  We agreed a red lip, gold eyelid, and smudged black liner would create the perfect classic holiday look.  She also showed me this really cool hairpiece with a sparkly headband where you roll your hair into the headband, giving you a very Gatsby-esque hairstyle without the effort.

The red lipstick is one of the newer colors of Maybelline’s Matte collection, Rich Ruby.  If you don’t own a lipstick from this collection you MUST run out and buy one (or two or three) ASAP.   They give such a high-end feel and are only around $5 a pop.

She also suggested the Sonia Kashuk cream contour stick – I’ve never tried a cream contour (I’m married to my powder palettes), but I was intrigued.  I love the natural results it gives, and the consistency of this one is very easy to blend. Since I went for a bolder lip and darker eyeliner, I kept the eye-shadow pretty light and minimal.

Next we played around with ideas for “breaking the rules” with holiday make-up.  Eva said she loves peachy looks at the moment, and I agreed.  We picked out the Pixi by Petra palette in copper peach, which she said had been featured in a tutorial by YouTuber Desi Perkins.  I am familiar with her videos and know she does incredible makeup so I jumped at the opportunity to buy a palette that she has done a tutorial for.

We chose a berry lipstick (also by Pixi) and a Sonia Kashuk melon blush to finish off the look.  For hair, we decided to have a little fun with gold sparkles – because why not?

And last, a completely necessary but unnecessary purchase – a set of Sonia Kashuk limited edition makeup brushes.  (If you know me, you know black and gold are the way to my heart…and via makeup brushes?! I couldn’t resist).
