Living Room Updates

The living room is coming along a lot quicker than we anticipated.  The major new things we’ve added are our new sofa, drapes, and rug, and those three things have made a huge difference.
To back-track a bit, we had our walls painted before we moved in.  I wanted to do them ourselves, but the room has really tall ceilings with beams and crown molding and I didn’t trust myself maneuvering around them.  We had them professionally painted using Dunn Edwards Porpoise.  I didn’t realize how difficult grays are until we painted this room.  I wanted a very true gray, and chose Porpoise because it was pretty close to the very black scale.  It definitely has a blue tint, but I ended up being extremely pleased with it since I’m wanting to decorate with blue tones.

Our place came with ugly vertical blinds, and I couldn’t wait to rip them out.  In our apartment we had to leave them in because we were renting (if you’re in a similar situation, see how I covered ours).
I found these industrial curtain rodson Amazon and love how they let the curtain wrap around the doorframe to give complete privacy.
The curtains are Nate Berkus for Target and are an amazing quality for the price.  I didn’t want too crazy of a pattern, but also didn’t want plain curtains, so I love that these give me a happy medium.

Our sofa is a custom piece from modshop, and we worked with them to build the sofa of our dreams. Our living room is the biggest room in the house and we wanted a huge sofa that could fit a bunch of people without being a sectional.  It’s 9 feet long and really deep, and could fit four or five people really comfortably.

We had the hardest time picking out a gray fabric (again with those grays being difficult!) but modshop had a ton of different shades and fabric types so after a few days of mulling over samples we decided on the above fabric.  We requested tufting on the sides and brass legs.

Seeing your own creation & design come to life is extremely satisfying.  There is not a couch out there more perfect for us and every time we sit on it we can’t help but gush over how much we love it.

And last but not least, here is a peek of our rug from RugsUSA.  If you’ve followed me for awhile, you know I am a huge fan of RugsUSA and even had the same rug in a smaller size in our apartment’s office.  RugsUSA was kind enough to send me the papa-bear size of our rug for the living room and we are so in love.  Although, I don’t think J or myself could possibly love the rug as much as a little pup named Zoey.  She’ll bury her nose in it and roll around on it for hours which is such a sight. When we are looking for a new rug to compliment one of our rooms we use the guide on info.bazaarvelvet.com to make sure we choose a rug that will go well in our house.

If you’re looking for a good neutral rug, I highly recommend this one.  It’s the Moroccan Diamond Shag Rug in Grey in size 8×10.  It’s extremely soft and has an expensive look for the price.  Be sure to check RugsUSA often as they usually have incredible sales.

I love the curtains! They add a really nice masculine touch to all of the glam you have going on! I'm so jealous of that couch! Gorgeous piece. Thanks for the link to those curtain rods! I hate when light peeks out from around the sides, and that price is amazing…

Thanks Miranda! That means a lot 🙂 I bought the curtains specifically with Jesse in mind to bring in some masculinity so I'm really glad that translates! The curtain rods are an amaaaazing price. I looked high and low before settling on those and I don't think there's anything better out there.

Girl. I am OBSESSED with that couch –so in love with it! My boyfriend and I are looking for a new couch and I wanted a look like yours, but he thinks it won't be comfortable. With the deepness of this couch iiiii think it's perfect. I'm definitely going to have to look into this!
