As I mentioned in a previous post, I decided to move toward a more neutral color palette in the living room.  This means lots of grey, white, gold and black.  So far I’m loving the serene but glam feeling of it all.
The votive on my coffee table was a Christmas gift, but is only $14.95 at Z Gallerie.  I think it provides quite a statement for such an affordable price.  The skull is also $14.95 at Z Gallerie.  J thinks it’s creepy… I think it’s love.
I knew my vintage 60’s bowl from thrifting needed to become the centerpiece of the dining room, but I added green moss balls from Crate&Barrel to bring in some color.  (You can find a similar option for $0.99 here).
I had to incorporate something from the new Target collection, and right now my budget was loving the candle at $5.99.  See the tortoise holder it’s on? $3 thrift store find, boo ya baby.
Now the black lacquer horse bookends in the last photo were a Marshall’s find at $7.99… the question is… on a scale of one to awk how awkward is it that there are no books in the bookends?  I just really want to keep them in this room.  Honesty is the best policy people.

Honestly, my first thought was "I'm allowed to use bookends without actually BOOKS?!?!" Mind officially blown. I have seen so many bookends that I love… but I just don't have that many books, thanks to my kindle. This opens up so many possibilities for me. 😉 By the way, love the gold skull!

Haha no books doesn't bother me! I'm a firm believer in decorating with what you LOVE, not for other people. LOVE those doggies.

That picture of you and your boyfriend is TOO cute! I also just love the tray, where is it from?

As far as the bookends go, I didn't even notice until you said it. So I say keep them there, they are gorg.

Also, I noticed you have a rug. Is it on top of carpeting? I have this same dilemma in my apartment and wanted to know what you thought. Is it okay to put a throw rug on top of carpet?? I really want to throw on a cowhide rug but I am scared to break some sort of "decor rule"! haha

This looks fab. . . I caught a glimpse of your dining fold-up trays. Where are those from? I'm in love! Were they a DIY or an easy find? Do tell!

    Thanks,
