How to Style Your “Basics” So They Stand Out

Today I wanted to share with you guys a couple of quick and simple ways to style your “basics” so they stand out.

There’s nothing I love more than a classic comfy tee and a pair of ripped denim. It’s always my go-to outfit when I want to be comfortable and not think too much about it. That being said, it can be a bit boring if not styled right.

If you love basics as much as me, but are feeling like you can’t wear them in a way that’s “stylish”, here are my tips:

STATEMENT SHOES

I tend to gravitate towards simple styles when it comes to shoes (the amount of plain black booties I have is embarassing — but I wear them all, don’t worry). That said, when you pair a simple shoe with a simple outfit, it doesn’t give it much personality. If I’m going to wear a basic tee and jeans, I’ll try to find some shoes that add some pizazz or life to the outfit, whether through embroidery, embellishments, or color.

POP OF COLOR

A quick and easy way to amp up a basic tee and jeans is with a pop of color. (I know, it’s an overused and annoying term but it’s really the best description!) Lately I’ve been loving red, so this little red bag is my go-to when I want to add color. You could also add color with a faux leather jacket or scarf.

TAILORED JACKET

You guys know I love the “third piece”. It really takes any outfit to the next level. A great way to balance out something super casual like a tee and jeans is with a structured or tailored jacket. I love this faux suede moto jacket from Old Navy (especially because it’s faux) but also because it’s structured while being comfortable. It really brings the whole look together and in my opinion, is the cherry on top.
