Office/Guest Bedroom Color Reveal

In case you missed the first post of us contemplating color choices, you can check it out here.

We made our decision and finally painted the office/guest bedroom!  We ended up choosing Valspar Perfect Storm, which felt like the perfect color for a home office/guest bedroom.  It’s a bold color, but it’s calming and peaceful at the same time.

We love the way it makes the crown molding and plantation shutter stand out, and the color complements the floor and brass accents so well.

The paint type is the new Valspar Reserve with HydroChroma Technology and I can NOT say enough good things about it.  We only used 2/3 of a gallon for the entire room and only did one coat – the pigmentation is just that good.  There was no need to prime and it went on so bold and smooth.  The sheen is flat, which makes it look so expensive and luxurious.

This is the first room I’ve painted myself and I did a lot of research before hand, because I didn’t want to mess it up, especially with such a bold color!  The biggest tip I have is if you are going with a bold color, make sure to caulk the tape down before you paint around the edges.  This was a LIFESAVER.  I had no paint bleeding under the tape.

The wall you see in these pictures will house our daybed (remember this post?  Stay tuned to see which one we chose!), and Jesse’s desk will be on the wall to the left.  The new wall color is really cozy to me, so I want to pick accents that are warm and masculine at the same time.  I’m really loving the way mustard and navy looks next to it.

Here’s what I have my eye on:

Isn't it too dark for bedroom/office? Looks a little bit depressive to me, may be if it was combo with some other colour or has some light elements on it like flowers for example.

Hmm…I guess it just depends on taste. You could spin that around the other way because some light colors can be really cold and un-inviting. We went with really light and bright colors in the rest of the house so I wanted to have some fun with this room – it's supposed to be a cozy room. The bed will be all white which will take away alot of the darkness you are seeing.

Hope you'll stay tuned to see how it turns out! Thanks for reading!

I love the contrast of the dark walls with the light floor. Can't wait to see it with all the furniture and decor in it!
