Last weekend Jesse and I were cozied up on the couch and decided to watch a movie. We settled on “Wind River” a murder mystery of sorts, with Elizabeth Olsen as the main character. I’ve been a fan of hers for awhile, and after seeing the movie had good reviews (I’m a loyal Rotten Tomatoes gal), I was sold!
I really didn’t know much about the movie beforehand, but by the end I felt so strongly about the message it made my stomach turn. The two main females in this movie are so powerful, true fighters each in their own way. I don’t want to give too much away, but the character played by Elizabeth is an FBI agent. She’s young, female, and instantly profiled because of those two factors by everyone she encounters. (Many of you know I used to work in a male-dominated corporate industry and I experienced these two things on such an extreme level it drove me away from the industry completely.) Needless to say she’s a complete bad-ass and proves everyone wrong.

I remember when I worked in the corporate world they told us we shouldn’t wear red. It’s too passionate, fiery, and emotional of a color to wear in a workplace. Well, here I am in my personal favorite power color red, doing what I love the most in life {blogging}, talking about power. Ha. Ha. Women are told a lot of things in the workplace… but that’s a different post for a different time.
If you feel powerless, that movie is an inspiring one.
I find when I’m feeling frustrated with the current climate we’re in I turn to my friends who inspire me and share similar ideals. We can vent our frustrations, talk about our goals, and make plans. There’s something really special about a community of women (AND men!) who build each other up. There’s power in numbers. Put a bunch of powerful females together and well… that’s how change happens.
