Splurge or Save

splurge or save

Happy Tuesday! Things have been non-stop crazy over here! We moved all the big furniture we are keeping to the new place this weekend with the help of my amazing brother, but we still have a lot of stuff at the apartment. I currently have a mint green closet that blinds me when I wake up in the mornings (seriously, who thought that was a good idea?), so I’m waiting to move most of my clothes until I’ve painted that white.

On top of that we are living with no internet or cable and no refrigerator, and trying to track down my various craigslist finds which are usually out of town (more on that soon!)

Nonetheless, I’m bringing you some of my favorite splurge or save finds as of lately. Colored aviators, bright prints, and Birkenstock style sandals are all extremely trendy right now, and we all know how I feel about splurging on trends!

Let’s assess…

Colored aviators were super in-style last season, and they’re back again!  I have 3 pairs from ZeroUV and I love them.  I rotate them all pretty frequently, but I’m still not sure I could commit to a designer pair.  If you think they will be back in style next season, I say go for the Ray-Bans, otherwise, save on these and have fun with the trend with a less expensive pair.

I’ve always loved Mara Hoffman’s beautiful prints and bright colored pieces, but they are on the pricier end.  I tend to wear my bold printed pieces a lot less because they are memorable, statement making pieces, so I have a hard time paying more for them.  I’m loving these Forever21 options because you won’t feel bad if you wear them once and then stick them in the back of your closet for a couple years.

Ahhhh Birkenstocks.  This trend makes me chuckle a bit because I grew up in Arkansas and lived there til I was 14 years old.  I LIVED in Birkenstocks.  They were super fashionable, functional, and durable.  If you’re from the south, you probably wore them too, so it’s hilarious that they are so “chic” now.  If you’re not sure how you feel about them, I would say save, but if you love the look and think you’ll wear them a ton, splurge on the Birkenstocks.  They’ll last forever so you will certainly get your money’s worth.

So, what do you guys think?  Splurge or save?

Dang girl! You really found comparable selections to the splurges (of course!), I love it all! I would splurge on the birks but everything else save! Hope you're having a great summer!

This is such a great post! Both the splurge & save items are gorgeous, though you found really great alternatives for the splurge items! Especially loving the prints on all the dresses! Mara Hoffman is absolutely swoon worthy! And same – so not sure how I'm feeling about Birks. I grew up with them too (here in Canada, sometimes people even wore wool socks with them… ack!) and I can't see myself rocking a pair now. Time will tell!

This is what I love about you. You find trendy items for a fraction of the price! Me being a college student, I have to find ways to save and I can't always have the expensive stuff. I look up to you so much! Love you, my twin! šŸ˜€
