A little bit of this…
Black drapes.
If you didn’t catch my drift.
I’ve asked some friends and have gotten the same response from almost everyone. “It will make the room look too dark.” or just plain “No.” But I am not discouraged, as I know my design aesthetic is not for everyone.
And while I pretty much already have my mind made up, I would still like to know your thoughts.
Let me give you some insight. These would go in the bedroom, which yes…is a dark room in itself. A big reason for the darkness is the ugly apartment blinds, which would no longer be a problem once we bring drapes into the picture. But beyond that, the only natural lighting is from the one window in the room and then the two side lamps we have. (No overhead lighting).
My thoughts:
-The room is used for sleeping, and dressing and that’s all. We have no T.V. in there, (which is the first room I’ve had like that… and I like it… but that’s a story for another day.)
-So when it’s essentially being used…oh I’d say 70% of the time for sleep, dark isn’t a bad thing.
-I love that the drapes are moody, and I feel they are almost romantic in a sense.
-Brass rod… brass clips… you feel me?
If you forget what my bedroom looks like, you can see the only part that’s remotely done (the nightstands) here.
So now…thoughts time…

I think they look gorgeous – elegant 🙂
I like them a lot!
for a bedroom I think they work….we don't have a TV in our bedroom either…so much better that way…it would look amazing with the gold/brass clips and rod…yum
I love them – I'm definitely having them in my bedroom when I get my own place x
One of the main features of these rooms are the white walls, which keeps the black from being too overwhelming. I read somewhere once that having a little bit of black in the room is like wearing mascara – the finishing touch!
I love them. I could not put them in my home because my dog sheds and the white hair on them would drive me crazy. If you don't have a pet problem…go for it! OK, this is my third time trying to get passed the verification.
Ahhh! Black and brass is the ultimate in luxury and sexiness. I say absolutely go for it. Trust your instincts!
I love them all especially the last one. Dramatic elegant and girly. Yes we barely do anything but sleep and watch a little tv right before bed. Not much time spent in the bedroom but must look fabulous anyways!
Great choices you have a great eye!

Thanks for stoping by my blog and your sweet comment! Glad I found you…I will be back soon!
They look great in these rooms! Kinda perfect for a bedroom 🙂
Do it! We have yucky apartment blinds as well and I covered those bad boys up with black curtains. We have black laquer furniture as well with glass knobs and I love it dark. We are only in our room for sleeping too and it works great!
LOVE these photos…especially the first one. And I agree about the functionality of your bedroom, it's dark for sleeping! I have dark charcoal curtains, and I just open them halfway at night so the light will come in to wake me up. There's a fix for everything! And if you have those curtains closed at night with your lamp on, the room may actually appear brighter than without the dark shade.
thank you for stopping by ldotcdot!
as for the black drapes..LOVE!

I like the idea of the black drapes with brass rod and clips. I think it looks best with light walls and floor.
I think it would look great! You'll have to keep us updated. I think with lighter colors in the room that this look can be pulled off, especially if you are sleeping most of the time in there! Plus, they would be great for people who like darkness while sleeping. Very elegant as well!
I think you should do it. I love a little drama in the bedroom. And sometimes when is a room is dark its best to just embrace it!
