Before & After: Sputnik Lighting in the Dining Room

Before we even found our place, I knew wherever we ended up, I wanted a sputnik chandelier.  I could never have one while renting, so it was at the top of my list.

Moving brings up a lot of unexpected expenses, especially when you are making some small changes and repairs to the place at the same time.  Sputnik chandeliers can be well into thousands of dollars, and that just wasn’t going to happen.  Putting my trusty investigating skills to use, I found Lucent Lightshop via Etsy.  Lucent Light Shop is the baby of Sarah Wolfe, who is an RN by day and light shop owner the rest of the time.  Her other half is an electrician and does all the wiring on the lights – can you say dream team?!

Sarah worked with me to find the perfect chandelier for my space.  We talked sizing and length and ended up with the  most perfect chandelier for my dining room space.  (P.S. to get a sneak of the full before go here).

The before wasn’t awful, and I actually got a lot of compliments on it by guests, but it wasn’t my sputnik.  I couldn’t let go of the sputnik dream!  We chose round bulbs, but you can get really creative with different bulb shapes.  I love that we can switch things up with the bulbs if we ever feel like we need a change.

It’s hard to capture the beauty of this piece in pictures but it truly is a work of art.  When it’s dark outside and we turn it on, it puts off the most magical glow.  We cannot wait to have dinner parties under it.

I knew the quality was going to be fantastic, but it really is impeccable.  I looked at a lot of “affordable options” in major retail stores and they were just cheap feeling and looking.  Looking back, I couldn’t imagine settling for a retail store chandelier when I could have this beauty for a similar price point.  Plus it was near impossible to find an affordable option in brass.  While I love me some spray paint, this was a huge focal piece of the house and it needed to be perfect.

Be sure to pin this for later – (you never know when you’ll need an affordable sputnik!) and check out Lucent Lightshop.

There’s still much to be done to the dining room — chair recovering, art, and the bar, so make sure you stay tuned to see how it all comes together!

A big thank you to Lucent Light Shop for working with Champagne Lifestyle to bring this post to you!  All opinions are 100% my own, as always.

Such a pretty piece. It's a modern day chandelier but with an antique finish. Perfect combination for the old school light medallian. You don't see those unless you're in an older brownstone. Great piece.

HI, we just moved into a home with a very similar chandelier. Unfortunately, we have a very antique, traditional table. How do recommend we decorate our table for home staging w/this modern light fixture? any pics? thx !
