When we first moved into our place, I scoured Craigslist for a mirror to sit above the fireplace mantle. I found the mirror you see listed for $20, but it was in need of some TLC (paint on the actual mirror part and chipped paint on the frame). I also wasn’t sure the shape was what I wanted, but I got it anyways.
Unfortunately, it became one of those things that I just
kept putting off and putting off. It sat above our fireplace in its original state for quite some time. I questioned whether the shape
was right and went as far as to buy two different mirrors just to return
them afterwards. I thought I wanted a taller, more traditional shape,
but after putting them above the fireplace, they seemed to make the
fireplace as a whole a bit too traditional. The rest of the space is
traditional mixed with mid-century and hollywood regency pieces, and the
octagonal shape seemed to bring it all together.
taking a few polls from friends and family, we all decided that the $20
Craigslist mirror had to stay. I spray painted it with a Rustoleum black lacquer spray paint, scraped all the paint off the face of the
mirror, and here it is today on my mantle.
I am pretty satisfied with how it is turning out… I guess the only dilemma left is should we leave it leaning against the wall, or do we hang it? What do you guys think?
Leave it…no need to hang it. I like that leaving it gives it a bit more of a laid back vibe!

Yes, I agree! Thanks for your input! 🙂
I agree! It looks so great leaning like that. Love your mantle and all of the fun decor on it! So cute!
